Monastery Tour

Day 1 Arrival in Sofia. Meet and transfer to a 3-or 4-star hotel. Welcome drink. Overnight.

Day 2 After breakfast full day excursion to Rila Monastery (120 km) – the most beautiful monastery that dates back to 10th century hidden in the impressive Rila mountain. The Rila Monastery can be briefly described as a combination of monumental architecture and rich history. Lunch in a cozy restaurant including typical specialities – bean soup, grilled trout and pancake with home-made jam. Return to Sofia. Overnight.

Day 3 Sightseeing tour of Sofia featuring the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the 4th century St.George’s church, the famous Boyana church and National History Museum. In the afternoon departure to Plovdiv. Accommodation in a 4-star hotel.

Day 4 City tour of the Old Town – the center of the mature Bulgarian civil architecture of the National Revival Period. Visit to the Bachkovo monastery – founded by the Georgian brothers Bakuriani back in 1083. What is unique of this historical crypt and makes it a masterpiece of the 12th century Orthodox art, are its exquisite murals. Dinner in a restaurant in Old Town. Overnight.

Day 5 After breakfast departure to Veliko Tarnovo. On the way visit of Kazanlak - the capital of the Rose Valley and the Thracian tomb. Later in the day passing through the Shipka pass to the open-air Ethnological museum of Etara. Lunch. Accommodation in a 3- or 4-star hotel.

Day 6 Full day excursion featuring the Tzarevetz hill with the royal Palace and the Partiarchal Church and the churches St.Dimitar of Saloniki, Holy Forty Martyrs, Sts Peter and Paul. Visit the museum village Arbanassi and Preobrazhensky monastery. Dinner.

Day 7 Departure to Sofia. On the way visit to the troyan monastery – established in 1600. The legendary miracle-working icon of Virgin Mary is in the Assumpion Church. Accommodation in 4-star hotel. Farewell dinner.

Day 8 Transfer to Sofia airport.
